Alanya or “Alaiya”, is a beach resort town and province of Antalya province on the southern coast of Turkey, in the country's Mediterranean region, 138 kilometers (86 miles) east of Antalya.

Due to its natural strategic location on a small peninsula in the Mediterranean south of the Taurus Mountains, Alanya was a local stronghold of several Mediterranean-based empires, including the Ptolemies, Seleucids, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Empire.
