ALANYA CASTLE

The fortress is a medieval castle built on a peninsula 250 meters high. The structure within the walls in the fortress shows evidence that many cultures lived on and in each other. The castle has been continuously inhabited since the Hellenistic period. The castle was built by Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat's in the 13th century. Other buildings from this era are the Red Tower and the shipyard in Alanya. The castle walls that run around the peninsula are about 6 kilometers long. In addition to many towers that are present on the castle walls, the castle has a total of 6 entrances. There are also 2 citadels that can still be visited today as museums. The water cisterns in the citadel, the sultan's palace, the soldiers' quarters and a chapel are some of the sights to visit. From the castle you have an unforgettable view of the Mediterranean Sea and from there you can watch spectacular sunsets. In Ehmedek are the great cisterns and gate from the Hellenistic period. The Süleymaniye Mosque, the Mecveddin Cistern, the Ship Mosque and the Gate to the Bazaar are among the must-see places. A walk among the houses built by the Ottoman culture and the narrow streets inside the fortress offers a good opportunity to explore the fortress.
